Modern day innovations are out of the question. They are designed with a difference and pretend to be more friendly to the environment. One such innovation that captured my attention was ‘Alternative clothes cleaner’, a concept of washing machine by Harsha Vardha, an Indian who presently resides in Bangalore, India.
The Alternative clothes cleaner is an abstract washing machine design that doubles as a large seat. It consist of 3 main parts 1. External Shell 2. Internal shell with dual chamber for air flow 3. Tech unit containing the Blower, filter and ionizer. The seat takes a simple fluidic form and the external shape like pebble equips central technology unit at the center resembling the pattern seen on the pebble.
The outer lid is unfolded to function as an appliance. The laundry is loaded into the blue elastic net that are compressed downwards into the chamber. The data and presets to the appliance is fed via the technology unit using the keypad. The tech unit fits into the cavity running through the outer shell and consist of console with user interface, dual chambers for the entry of air into and out from the chamber, filter, ionizer, sensors and actuator for magnetic locking of the lid. The central section of the tech unit holds ionized air blowers and HEPA filters.
Working
Due to the low pressure region above the ionizer, due to the ionizer fan, the pressure currents are set in motion via the chambers. The fan forces the air through the ducts located on the either side of the tech unit. The air is sucked and diverted into it due to the low pressure region in the central hub of the chamber. As the cavity gets full, the pressure starts to increase inside. When the optimum value is reached, the tech units stops fetching air from outside and for a specified period of time, the inside air is circulated constantly. Hence with varying fan speeds and constant pressure cycles, the clothes are cleaned by the ionizer.
The color of the external shell can be varied according to the convenience of the user. Customization is also possible for the customer who specifies his color to suit his interior.
