Most of us have come across the term Fuzzy Logic which is been common used in washing machine. We blindly believe what seller say about the Fuzzy logic. But in depth, what is the actual concept fuzzy logic? Why did it come into existence into washing machine? How does it work? This article gives you a brief answer for all these question.
In general, outside the concept of washing machine, fuzzy logic actually means an imprecise data having many solution for a problem. It is used in decision making and acts as an artificial intelligence system.

Fuzzy logic in Washing Machine

The washing machines that we are using today without fuzzy logic serves the purpose of washing but most of us do not realize, different type of fabrics need different types of washing time depending upon the quality of cloth, amount of dirt and the type of dirt. Also which fabric needs what amount of agitation time has not been concerned by the washing machines. Most of the cases, users give the laundry ( a collection of all fabric type) same agitation and wash time never minding about the damages caused to clothes. Controlling the washing machine using the fuzzy logic, a sensor can make washing machine more intelligent for taking appropriate decision on determining agitation speed depending upon the depth of dirt.

Concept of Fuzzy Logic

Fuzzy logic is an automation of the human process of deciding the wash time depending up on the fabric type. Unluckily, there is no easy way to explicate the length of wash time and the mathematical relationship between volumes of dirt and clothes. A Fuzzy controller controls the washing machine and feeds external signals using the sensor system through which decisions are made.

How Does Fuzzy Logic work?

The fuzzy controller considers two inputs viz degree of dirt (how much dirty a cloth is) and type of dirt (quality of dirt), to process information and output the estimated wash time. The process of getting these two inputs are taken by the sensors. The transparency of the wash water determines the degree of dirt while type of degree is determined using the time of saturation. Hence if the dirtiness of the cloth is large and greasy, the wash time is very long and it goes on. Finally, by using fuzzy logic, we are able to obtain wash time without human interruption, making the washing machine more automatic and intelligent.
