A Rare Gas Washing Machine Donated To Museum
December 24, 2009
An old washing machine, powered by gas was donated to the Museum of Science and Industry in New Hampshire. It is been reported that the machine has been built before the invention of automatic washing machine and seems to be a top loader. This rare machine was bought by the couple, Joan and Arnold Brown in 1950, shortly after their marriage and has been used until very recently by their family members.
Shirley, the couple’s daughter came forward to donate this washing machine to the museum. She explained that she remembered that the machine was in use from the time she went to school and to which an odd number of clothes were dumped. The washing machine does washing for the first time and drying and reduces creases for the second time. The machine depicts the lifestyle of the browns where they need not make use of public laundry
